Mail Jewish Material on Rav Soloveichik

This page contains various information files concerning the life and writings of Rav Soloveichik, that were put together by members of the list in the weeks following the Rav's death. Various list-members put together summaries of some of the hespedim and shiurim that were given in his memory at that time. Included here are hespedim from: R. Ahron Soloveitchik, R. Isadore Twersky, R. Hayim Soloveitchik, R. Yosef Blau, R. Yaakov Neuburger, R. Moshe Tendler, R. Yehuda Parnes, Julius Berman, R. Hershel Reichman, R. Mordecai Willig, R. Hershel Schachter, R. One of our list members, Arnie Lustiger, has been transcribing and editing one of the Rav's Tshuva Drashot (from years past) each year for the last few years. In 1992, the topic was: The Avoda Recitation and Yom Kippur Tefillah . In 1993, the topic was The Significance of the Various Appellations for Yom Kippur. The 1994 drasha is now available and the topic is: The Teshuva Process During the Yamim Nora'im (Days of Awe). Beyond the Teshuva drashot, Arnie has also put up a summary of a portion of a lecture presented to the Rabbinical Council of America by Rabbi Yosef Ber Soloveitchik on June 22, 1972 entitled: Jewish Ethics and the Aseret Hadibrot.

We also have a partial transcript of an address of Rabbi Joseph Baer Soloveitchik to the RCA Convention, 1975, on the topic of gerut, where the preamble to the shiur was transcribed by Eitan Fiorino. The topic of the preamble is: Talmud Torah and Kabalas Ol Malchus Shamayim.

Besides for the above material which Arnie has submitted from the Rav's lectures, we have summaries of lectures given by some of the Rav's students based on the Rav's teachings. Rachamim Pauli has submitted a summary of Rav Soloveitchik on Tisha B'Av based on a lecture given on by HaRav Aaron Adler.

There is a mailing list run by Josh Rapps that delivers a weekly dvar torah based on notes from shiurim that the Rav gave over many years. The past issues of that list can be found at mj-ravtorah
