Membership
The Membership Committee is committed to bringing a diverse population into the fold of our very special and ever growing Reform Jewish congregation located in the woods south of Boston. Here, those who are born Jewish, Jews by choice and non Jewish spouses alike will find an open, warm and inviting place committed to family, social action, lifelong Jewish learning, and spiritual enrichment. We pledge to welcome people from all walks of life and to support those who wish to worship in a traditional Jewish setting. The Membership Committee is also dedicated to helping the Temple both sustain its membership and to thrive.
Because Temple Beth David views its mission as addressing entire families or households, membership is categorized by family unit, rather than by individual. Regardless of the religious affiliation of other members of your household, Temple Beth David considers each individual in the family a member. Whether you are single, in a committed partnership, or married, whether or not there are children present in your household, you are all considered members, and are all invited to participate in all Temple life.
Temple Beth David subscribes to the “fair share” philosophy of membership dues. We recognize that families have a wide variety of financial circumstances, and we aim to accommodate these as fairly as possible. That is why the “fair share” system has been so successful for us. Fair share means that your dues are calculated based on your self-reported family income. We abide by the “honor system” in determining yearly pledges. We only ask that members be honest and that they fulfill their pledges to the best of their ability. Temple Beth David provides a vibrant life of worship, learning and community, and this can only be supported by a committed membership.
